The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) and the Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ) have produced a conference report of the the Police Surveillance North and South: Covert Intelligence, Facial Recognition Technology, Oversight and Human Rights’ Conference Report conference.
The conference, hosted by ICCL and CAJ as part of the Policing for Peace project, took place in the Royal College of Physicians, Dublin on Tuesday 24 October 2023.
The conference brought together civil servants, members of the policing oversight bodies, academics, practitioners, civil society and affected communities to discuss the current and future landscape of police surveillance and oversight. The agenda focused on how to embed a human rights perspective in these issues. The report summarises the key points from each panel, the issues identified and recommendations for reform.
The report will be launched at the ICCL-CAJ ‘Police Reform in a Changing Ireland Next Steps after the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland‘ conference in Maynooth University on Thursday 16 May 2024.
This seminar and report are part of ICCL and CAJ’s joint ‘Policing for Peace’ project, which is supported by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust. The seminar was supported by the Community Foundation Ireland and Community Foundation Northern Ireland programme.
