Victims of crime have rights to support and protection under the EU Directive on victims (2012/29/EU). These rights include, for example, the right to information and communication, individual needs assessment and protection, and access to victim support services.
We are carrying out research to understand how victims of crime in Ireland experience the criminal justice system and develop training to improve how they are supported.
We have developed two questionnaires, one for professionals and one for victims of crime.
If you are a professional or volunteer working with victims of crime and wish to fill out our questionnaire, please drop us a line at info@iccl.ie.
If you have been a victim of a crime, please consider filling out our anonymous questionnaire:

A guidance document which explains lots of the questions in more simple language is available here.
If you would rather to speak to our researcher on the phone or on Zoom to go through the questionnaire, please get in touch by emailing info@iccl.ie.
These questionnaires are anonymous and the information gathered will be used only for the outputs of this project. Procedures are in place to minimise re-traumatisation of victims and to protect their privacy and confidentiality.
About the project
Survive, Overcome and Support Victims of Crime – “S.O.S. for victims” is an international project co-funded by the European Union. We are working on this project in conjunction with partners in Croatia, Slovenia and Italy.
Based on the results of the questionnaires, we will develop free training for victim support workers, Gardaí, prosecutors and other professionals. The training will run in Limerick and Dublin in June. Please get in touch if you would like to register for a place.
We will also produce a final report, identifying vulnerabilities and best practices in promoting victims’ rights, supports and protection and making recommendations for improvement. We will launch the report at a national meeting in Dublin. Awareness-raising and dissemination materials will also be developed to engage law enforcement, public prosecutors, victim support workers and the judiciary.
