Women’s Rights

Gender equality and the rights of women in Irish society were founding principles for ICCL. We have played a leading role at every stage of the advancement of women’s rights in Ireland since 1976. Post repeal, our focus is on the human rights and legal dimensions of effective access to abortion and on continuing to achieve full respect for women’s rights in Irish law.

ICCL and repealing the 8th

ICCL formed part of the Coalition to Repeal the 8th Amendment and  we were a proud member of Together for Yes. Read our full report on the Referendum campaign here.

In 2017 we published our position paper on the 8th Amendment to the Irish Constitution: Women’s Equality and the 8th Amendment.

This document formed the basis for our campaign for a YES vote in the 2018 Referendum on the 8th Amendment.
