ICCL Equality and Hate Crime Senior Policy Officer Luna Liboni will present to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) in Geneva today. CESCR is the United Nations Treaty Body which monitors the implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR). Ireland ratified ICESCR in 1989. States are required to submit regular reports to the Committee on measures adopted and progress made in protecting Covenant rights.
The State submitted a report to the Committee. The Committee also accepts alternative reports
from civil society organisations. Across the globe, these shadow reports are an opportunity for
society to challenge any narratives put forward by government.
ICCL submitted an alternative report to the Committee. We make observations and
recommendations under 7 Articles, including the right to an adequate standard of living, the
right to health, the right to social security and the right to equality between men and women.
