The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) on behalf of the International Network of Civil Liberties Organisations (INCLO) invites you to a symposium titled Surveillance & Democracy: Privacy Rights in the Digital Age with Prof. Joseph Cannataci, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to privacy and Ben Wizner (American Civil Liberties Union), lawyer for Edward Snowden.

Prof Cannataci and Ben Wizner will be joined in discussion by leading national and international experts on human rights, privacy and data protection including TJ McIntyre of Digital Rights Ireland.

The timing of the event is particularly apt in light of the agreement of the US: EU Privacy Shield Framework in 2016. This event will provide an opportunity to examine the issues faced by Ireland’s data protection regime as the European home of some major global technology firms.

The symposium will include the European launch of the INCLO Report, “Surveillance and Democracy: Chilling Tales from Around the World” and will be chaired by Karlin Lillington of the Irish Times.
