New courts complex offers a better deal for crime victims says ICCL

  • 07-12-2009

The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) has welcomed the opening of the new Criminal Courts of Justice complex at Parkgate Street, Dublin.

Speaking after the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform signed legal documents paving the way for the complex to become operational, ICCL Director Mr Mark Kelly said:

“Dermot Ahern TD is to be commended for opening the Parkgate Street courts complex, which includes a number of innovative safety and security features, such as access and waiting facilities for crime victims and witnesses which are separate from those for accused persons”.

“Giving a better deal to victims of crime and witnesses requires concrete and practical measures of this kind, rather than tinkering with the fundamental safeguards offered during criminal trials”, he added.
