Progress made in entrenching the rights of children and young people has been celebrated at the launch of a new guide to their rights by Dr James Reilly TD, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs today (Wednesday 26 November 2014).  The guide, ‘Know Your Rights – The Rights of Children and Young People’, is a joint publication of the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) and the Children’s Rights Alliance.

‘Know Your Rights – The Rights of Children and Young People’ is the latest in the ICCL’s Know Your Rights public information series. It is the first guide of its kind which seeks to comprehensively and accessibly outline the rights of children and young people in Ireland, and has been awarded a Plain English mark by the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA). 

- ‘Know Your Rights: The Rights of Children and Young People’ is the latest in the ICCL’s Know Your Rights public information series, which is designed to inform people in clear and accessible language about their rights under key areas of the law. The pack was produced in partnership with the Children’s Rights Alliance, and explains these rights in plain English. Taoiseach, Enda Kenny has today added his support to the campaign to encourage people to register to vote in advance of the upcoming referendum of civil marriage equality in Ireland, at a photocall today with Young Fine Gael President Dale McDermott.

“In 2015, there will be several constitutional referendums, including one on same sex marriage. Fine Gael always encourages people to vote in every constitutional referendum. Registering to vote is a powerful democratic action that ensures that you have your say at local, national and constitutional level on important issues that will affect our country” commented An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny T.D.

A new campaign, Yes Equality – Register to Vote was launched on Monday. It is a joint initiative by The Gay and Lesbian Equality Network (GLEN); the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL); and Marriage Equality to encourage people to register to vote this November, ahead of next year’s referendum on civil marriage equality.
